It's BACK! AmeriCAN Canned Beer Festival!! (here is the beer list!)
It's the most wonderful time of the year! Well, for me at least. Its almost time for one of my favorite Arizona Beer Festivals. Now in its 5th year, the festival is returning to the Scottsdale Civic Center to celebrate and showcase some of the best craft beer to be found in cans! I'll just add, if you are one of those people that still insists beer just isn't as good in cans, you can stop reading now, and continue to deny yourself some of the best beer in America!
Doors open at 1 (VIP opens at Noon), tickets are $35 presale ($45 day of) that includes your adorable souvenir 4 oz. can, and 20 4 oz. pours!
What I love about this event, its canned beer, so for the most part, you are getting a breweries core line up, their flagship brews, and some seasons offerings. There aren't these special, super limited, once in a life time barrel aged, sour beers that people stand in line for days for. Not that there is anything wrong with that, those beers are wonderful, but for me, this festival showcases what makes the breweries who they are. This is a great festival for the beer snob in you to find new favorites, and a wonderful festival for the person that may just be getting into craft, and still trying to find those styles they love. Its a great time, with great people, great beer, wonderful food, and a great location. This one has it all....
"Ok Beer Czar, but what beers can I expect to find there?" Only 300+ canned beers, representing not only Arizona breweries, but breweries from all over the country, and some that aren't in regular distribution here in our state. What's that, you want me to be more specific? Ok, well, here is a list of the beers you will find next weekend.....

Its that time of year again, for AmeriCAN!!!
The sun is staying up longer, the days are getting warmer (ok, hotter), the shelves are being vacated of heavy, dark winters beers, and being replaced with lighter, crisp summer ales. What does this mean? Its beer festival season here in Arizona, and when I think beer festivals in Arizona, one comes to my mind immediately. No, not Strong Beer Festival (that is my second favorite), no, I am talking about the 4th Annual AmeriCAN Canned Beer Festival! Coming May 17th!
Why is this my favorite festival? Well, I think this festival combines everything that I love about beer, and beer festivals. Its fun, there is a lot of great beer to be had, beer we can't get here in Arizona, great location, entertainment, food, you name it. This festival lacks the sort of 'frat boy" good time drunk fest that plagues a lot of festivals, but also lacks the sort of "pinky up, they only made 1 gallon of this, lets spend 45 minutes arguing about what style this is" sort of over serious, beer geekiness that tends to drag down some other festivals (in my humble opinion). This festival is a perfect combo of all that is right with beer. There is some great beer to be had, but you can also dance to live music. You can chat with brewers you've only seen pictures of, yet you still might catch a glimpse of a borderline inappropriately displayed set of cleavage squeezed into a low cut tank top. Sure you may see some folks stumbling around that have had a few too many (I've never been to a beer festival that I didn't see that), but you can also meet and chat with other like minded beer fans that you normally wouldn't get a chance to meet.
Plus, the venue (held outside on the grounds of the Scottsdale Civic Center) for this festival is just about perfect, lots of sun, and lots of shade, easy to navigate, plenty of room and doesn't ever really feel crowded, no matter how crowded it is.
Ok, those are just a few of my thoughts on why this is not just a great beer event, but just a great event period. If that isn't enough to get your ass to this festival, how about a look at the brewers that will be in attendances.....check this out.

The Great American Barbeque & Beer Festival, you need to be there!!!
Where else can you get Smoked tri-tip, skirt steak, brisket, BBQ chicken, pulled pork sandwiches, ribs, brats, wings, grilled corn, BBQ nachos, BBQ burritos, BBQ bacon wrapped fried Alligator, (yes you read correctly, that said BBQ bacon wrapped fried Alligator) mother klucker kabobs, BBQ sundaes, or redneck tacos, all in one place? As if that wasn't enough, you can wash it all down with a nice cold Mr. Pineapple? Downtown Chandler, that's where! In just a few short weeks, on Saturday, March 22nd, SanTan will be hosting the annual Great American BBQ and Beer Festival, one of the valleys greatest festivals in my (and many others) opinion.
OK, aside from the amazing food already listed above, and access to as much Mr. Pineapple as you want, there is also some other great reasons to attend this event. Among some of them are.....
Over 60 pit masters showing us how its done....
Over 200 kegs of beer to wash it all down....(including Mr. Pineapple, did I mention that?
BBQ not your thing, how about Pea & Pa’s Kettle Corn, Frost Gelato, Paletas Betty, Sugarlips deep fried oreos, pickles, cheese, funnel cakes and ribbon fries....
Cakery, Kool Twist, Campfire Concessions, State Fair Lemonade, and Rita’s Italian Ice,
There will be wing, pie, brat and BBQ eating contests.....
How about a Tailgater’s Lawn, Ultra Star March Madness Lounge, Chester’s Harley Davidson Pavilion, Porkopolis VIP Quarters, Dickel Hoedown Rodeo Zone, Bulleit Bourbon BBQ Pit Row, DC Farmers Market, and an expanded kid’s play zone....
Still not sure you want to go? Did I mention there was live music? Not just any old live music, but music from Grammy Award winning Blues Traveler!
Opening up for Blues Traveler, fans can also enjoy Craig Campbell, Laura Walsh, and Georgia Chrome.
Oh, and one more thing, TICKETS ARE ONLY $10!!!
(presale at Bashas' is only $8!! VIP for $125)
OK, if that doesn't get your ass there, then I am sorry, I can not help you. For those of you that realize that this is one of the greatest, most fun (and might I add best smelling) events in the east valley every year, I really hope to see you there!!
Gates open at 12pm, with BT hitting the stage at 8 for a 2 hour set.
For more info on where to get tickets, event schedule and everything else, check out the full press release from the HDE Agency here....
